The Program

Choose among daytime dance and music workshops, and spend the evenings dancing rousing contras, squares, and couples dances. Late night activities, a Chesapeake Dance Weekend hallmark, include jamming, dancing, socializing, and generally whoopin’ it up! Enjoy delicious and healthy meals in the company of friends, sun yourself on the deck, walk in the woods, leave the everyday world behind, be exhilarated and rejuvenated … it’s all waiting here for you at Camp Letts, on the beautiful shores of the Chesapeake Bay, less than an hour from the heart of Washington, DC.

Tidal Wave & Tony Parkes

The signature sound of Tidal Wave, with Sabin Jacques (accordion, bones, feet), Rachel Aucoin (piano, vocals), Stuart Kenney (bass, banjo) and Eric Favreau (fiddle), is rooted in French Canadian fiddle tradition. With energizing fiddle, accordion, piano and foot percussion, Tidal Wave brings the musical virtuosity of the north to our contra dance floor. Long-time favorite Tony Parkes (contras & squares) will engage and captivate dancers with the elegant subtleties of his traditional and evolving repertoire.

The Bucking Mules & Kathy Anderson

Drawing from old 78s and a senior generation of musicians, the Bucking Mules, with Joseph Decosimo (fiddle, banjo), Luke Richardson (banjo), Karen Celia Heil (guitar), and Joe DeJarnette (bass), throw down authentic old time music that distills the essence of the tradition into driving tunes for contemporary dancers. Kathy Anderson (squares & contras), known for exciting squares, quirky contras, and swift, clear teaching, has long been a favorite caller at home and abroad. Her smooth delivery and intriguing repertoire make for a exhilarating dance experience.
